HOW TO TEST REMOTE CONTROLS WITH YOUR PHONE CAMERA OR RADIO
This little tutorial here will teach you guys how to test a TV remote control to know if it is still working or the batteries just need replacement. You can test your remote controls using a camera phone or a radio set.
Some time ago, i took my TV set for repairs when it got spoilt. After the repairs, the remote control of the TV set wasn't working even when i replace the batteries with new ones. I thought the TV remote sensor was faulty but technician said it was fine. So i decided to test if the remote control was still working.
The procedures i used to test if my TV remote control is working were as follows:
Testing Remote Controls Using A Camera Phone
You will need a camera phone to do this experiment. This is because, a camera phone makes the infra-red lights that send signals from the remote control visible. Which can not be seen with the human eye.
Procedures:
=> Turn on your phone's camera.
=> Point your remote control in front of your camera phone as if you are using it to control your TV set.
=> Press any buttons on the remote repeatedly and you will see a blue light flashing from the bulb on your remote.
=> You can see the light clearly when doing it in the dark. If this happens, your remote control is working fine. Otherwise you will have to get a new one. Or replace the batteries with new ones and try again.
Testing Remotes Using A Radio Set
Radios can also detect infra-red signals just like they detect radio waves. You will need a radio set that has AM and SW feature.
Procedures:
=> Turn on your radio
=> Set it to either AM mode or SW mode
=> Bring your remote control close to the radio's antenna
=> Press any buttons on the remote
=> If you hear beeps on your radio then the remote is working fine.
=> If you didn't hear any beep, try tuning the radio to other frequencies and if it still didn't beep, then buy a new one.
