THE African Festival for Arts and Culture (AFRIKFEST) in partnership with the City of Las Vegas in the United States will be conferring an award to some selected African leaders for their contributions to human capacity development.

According to the Executive Secretary/Project Director of AFRIKFEST, Mrs Favour Chikelu, the award will be conferred on them for “their activities in their various states have helped to grow human capacity Development.
“These areas are infrastructure, arts, and culture, tourism, agriculture, education, youth empowerment which have brought peace and development in their states”.
The governors nominated for the award includes Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, Nyesom Wike of Rivers states, Cross River state governor, Ben Ayade and the Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Others include Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, Lagos state governor, Akinwumi Ambode and the governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi.
Briefing journalists in Abuja, the African Coordinator of AFRIKFEST, Darlington Okpebholo Ray said “For the first time we are hearing made in Nigeria rice in the markets and even set to be exported. That is a huge achievement. We have rice in Lagos, Kebbi and Ebonyi. These governors are nominated because these efforts have a direct effect on the people”.
He said the event was put together to showcase the creative activities and Africa’s cultural heritage as well as providing opportunities for African leaders to discuss business in the state of Nevada.
